Indoor Air Quality & UV Purification in Bonita Springs, FL
I am Derrik Speck, owner of True Care Air LLC, and I am the only person who works on your system. The call I get most in Bonita Springs comes in November, when somebody opens a house that has been closed since May and the first thing they notice is the smell. That is not bad luck. It is the predictable result of how seasonal homes get left. Call (239) 810-2500 or book online and I will go through it with you.
The seasonal home is the whole story here
A house closed up from May to October with the thermostat set high is exactly the condition that grows biological film in an air handler. The system barely runs, so the coil and the drain pan sit damp in a warm cabinet for months with nothing moving through them. Then the system gets turned down in season, air pushes across all of that, and the house smells. Off Bonita Beach Road, Imperial Parkway, Coconut Road and through Bonita Bay, that is the pattern I see over and over, and it is worth planning around before you leave rather than after you come back.
What a UV lamp does about it
A UV lamp mounts in the air handler and runs on the evaporator coil and the drain pan, the two surfaces that stay wet. It keeps biological growth from establishing on them. That is the honest description of the job, and it is a real benefit for a house that sits closed, because a coil with growth on it moves less air, drains worse and smells. What it is not is a health device. I do not claim a percentage of viruses killed and I do not claim it cures anybody's allergies, and I would question a contractor who does.
What it will not do
Plainly: a UV lamp is not a substitute for cleaning a coil that is already dirty, and it will not fix a clogged drain line. If you come back to a system that already has growth on the coil or a drain that is backing up, I clean and repair that first, then talk about a lamp. Installing a lamp over a filthy coil is selling somebody a light bulb. Lamps are consumable and need replacing on an interval, and I give you that interval up front, which matters more for a seasonal owner who is not here to notice. Things I handle in this order:
- Real coil cleaning and drain line clearing first, as a repair visit if the system is already fouled.
- A pre-departure and a re-open visit through Bonita Springs maintenance so nothing sits wet and unattended for five months.
- Duct and return sealing when humid attic air is being pulled in, which is duct work, not purification.
- Then UV, once the equipment is actually clean.
Often it is a humidity problem wearing a costume
An oversized air conditioner cools fast, satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it removes much moisture, leaving the house at 60 percent indoor humidity, clammy and musty with a perfectly functional air conditioner. That is a sizing and equipment problem, not a filter problem. A variable speed system that runs longer at lower capacity is the real fix, and in a seasonal house it is the difference between coming back to a fresh house and coming back to a project. Run the replacement cost calculator if you are weighing it.
Pricing
UV Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 systems are $859 each installed. Dual UV systems are $1,200 and up. I also install REME HALO whole home air purification. Licensed CAC1824801, insured, owner operated, and 0% financing through Wells Fargo is available for qualified buyers on larger work. More background is on the Southwest Florida indoor air quality page, and a standing tune up schedule is what keeps a closed-up house from turning into a callback.
