AC Repair & HVAC Service in Naples, FL

Naples is one name on a map covering two environments that punish air conditioning equipment in opposite ways. Along the coast in North Naples and around Vanderbilt Beach, salt does the damage. Out east in Golden Gate and the Estates, it is well water, distance and age. I am Derrik Speck, owner of True Care Air LLC, and I work both halves personally, reading a different set of clues depending on which side of the county I am on.

Salt air does not damage equipment evenly

Homeowners near the water expect corrosion. What surprises them is where it lands first. Airborne chloride settles on the outdoor coil and attacks the aluminum fins and copper tube joints, fastest on the side facing the open exposure. Long before a unit visibly falls apart, the fins powder and shed, cutting the surface area available to reject heat. The system keeps satisfying the thermostat, so nobody notices, and the power bill climbs each season. By the time capacity is obviously down, years of degradation are banked.

Salt also attacks the parts nobody looks at. Contactor points pit and weld. Connections inside the disconnect box grow a green crust that raises resistance and cooks the terminal. On a coastal unit past ten years old, I often find the expensive component healthy and four cheap ones failing at once, which changes the repair conversation.

Two warnings for coastal owners. First, do not pressure wash the condenser. It folds the fins flat and permanently restricts the airflow the coil depends on. A gentle garden hose rinse, top to bottom, is the right version of that instinct. Second, be skeptical of aftermarket corrosion coatings sold as a life extender. Factory-applied protection on new equipment is real and worth specifying near the beach. A can of something sprayed on a coil already deteriorating is mostly a receipt.

Golden Gate and the Estates are a different job entirely

Drive east and the failure pattern resets. Lots get large, driveways get long, and homes run on wells rather than city water. Equipment out there is older and has been kept running longer, which I respect, and it means many systems have earned their retirement.

Well water adds a wrinkle that does not exist on the coast. Iron and mineral content varies property to property, and where sprinkler overspray from a well hits the outdoor unit you get orange staining and mineral scale on the coil and cabinet. Scale insulates a condenser coil in exactly the way you do not want. Relocating a sprinkler head is sometimes the entire fix, and costs nothing.

Property size matters too. Detached structures, converted garages and guest quarters are common in the Estates, and extending a main duct system that far is usually a worse idea than putting a ductless mini split in the space that needs it. Older Estates homes also carry duct runs in unconditioned attics patched rather than repaired over decades, and patching eventually stops working. That is where ductwork repair and replacement comes in. To be clear: I do not clean air ducts. Duct cleaning is sold hard here and does little for a duct system whose real problem is leakage, crushed flex or missing insulation.

What you can rule out yourself

Four things before you spend money. Check the filter and change it if it is loaded. Check the breaker at the panel, then the separate disconnect switch beside the outdoor unit. Look at the indoor unit for water in the backup pan, which means the condensate line plugged and a safety switch cut the system off deliberately. Then walk outside while the system is calling for cooling and see whether the outdoor fan is spinning. Whatever you find tells me a great deal before I arrive.

What I would ask you to stop assuming is that warm air means a bad thermostat. It seldom does. A thermostat failure normally announces itself by going dark or refusing input, not by delivering air at the wrong temperature. In the Estates I meet plenty of systems where the thermostat was replaced as a first guess while the real fault, often a failing capacitor or a slow leak, simply continued. I handle thermostat installation when it is warranted, and I say so when it is not.

The $109 diagnostic, plainly stated

A residential diagnostic in Naples is $109, and that is simply what the diagnosis costs. I would rather charge for the diagnosis honestly than bury it in a repair price, and I do not quote repair costs on the phone beyond the dispatch fee, because a number invented over the phone is not one either of us should trust. The visit covers electrical testing, measured refrigerant performance, airflow and temperature split, inspection of the coil, drain and accessible duct connections, and a written flat price before work starts, so you approve the cost of the repair rather than find it out afterward. Estimates for a complete system replacement are free. If your air conditioner is running now and you want it serviced ahead of the season, that is the $49 tune-up, not a diagnostic.

The point where replacing beats repairing

I would rather keep a working system working, and usually that is what I do. But there is a line. Near the water, a compressor failure on a unit older than about ten years usually ends the argument, because the same salt that killed the compressor has been working on the coil and the electricals the whole time and you will be back. In the Estates the deciding factor is more often refrigerant: an evaporator coil leaking on an R-22 system costs more to charge than the repair is worth, and you are renting time rather than fixing anything. The third case applies anywhere in the county: a system that has taken three repairs in two years. Those are no longer isolated events. When replacement is genuinely right I install American Standard equipment as an authorized dealer, and 0% financing is available on new systems for qualified buyers. I also handle heating and furnace repair for the short stretch of the year that calls for it.

You reach the owner when you call, not a call center, and the owner arrives. True Care Air carries Florida licence CAC1824801 and full insurance, 15 years of combined HVAC education and field experience stand behind the work, and 50+ Google reviews average a 5.0 star rating.
