AC Repair & HVAC Service in Bonita Springs, FL
My name is Derrik Speck and I own True Care Air LLC. I pick up when I can, and when I cannot the answering system takes your details and I call you back myself. Either way it is me who pulls into your driveway and holds the gauges. There is no dispatcher in between. That matters more here than in most towns, because Bonita Springs is two housing markets sharing one set of zip codes, and the failures on either side of US 41 have little in common.
West of 41 versus the inland communities
Head toward the beach along Bonita Beach Road and the housing stock changes fast. Many of the older cottages were built before ducted central air was a given, then converted later by whoever was available and affordable at the time. The results are wildly inconsistent. Some have a tidy trunk and branch layout in a cramped attic. Others have flex duct draped across joists, crushed at every turn, feeding one undersized hallway return. A few have no real distribution system at all. So when someone there tells me the back bedroom never gets comfortable, the equipment is usually healthy and the ductwork is the culprit, which is why ductwork repair and replacement is a bigger share of my work here than anywhere else. In the smallest cottages and in rooms added on later, a ductless mini split is often the honest answer rather than forcing more air through ducts never designed to carry it.
Move inland toward Imperial Parkway and the Bonita Bay community and the picture flips. Newer builds, generally decent duct layouts, equipment on pads in tight side yards. The problems there are electrical and refrigerant side rather than airflow geometry: capacitors, contactors, condensate switches and slow leaks at the service valves. Same city, different diagnostic path.
The closed-house failure nobody warns seasonal owners about
A large share of Bonita Springs homes sit empty from roughly May through October. The owner leaves in spring, shuts everything down or sets the thermostat as high as it goes, and flies back in the fall. That house then spends the hottest, wettest five months of the year with no dehumidification while dew points sit in the seventies for weeks. The evaporator coil stays damp and dust bonds to it. Drain pans hold standing water and grow a mat that hardens into a plug. Then the system is switched on in October, runs a few hours, and floods a closet, freezes solid, or blows air that smells like a boat closed up all summer.
This is the most predictable call on my calendar and it is almost entirely preventable. Leave the system running in the high seventies rather than off. Have the drain line cleared and the coil checked before you leave, not after you get back. If your system currently works and you want it looked over before closing the house, a $49 tune-up is the right service. If you have already come back to a house that will not cool, that is a diagnostic call, described below.
To be blunt: a UV lamp will not undo a summer of humidity in a closed house. Those products have a real place and I install them, but they are no substitute for cleaning a coil carrying five months of biological growth. I also do not clean air ducts, and I would be skeptical of anyone here who leads with that offer to a seasonal homeowner. I repair and replace duct systems that are genuinely damaged, which is a different job entirely.

Three things to check before you call me
Before you spend money, first look at your air handler for standing water in the secondary pan or a tripped float switch. A clogged condensate line is the most common reason a Bonita Springs system shuts itself off, and the switch doing its job looks identical to a dead system. Second, check your breakers, including the outdoor disconnect at the condenser, which is a separate switch people forget exists. Third, pull the filter. If light will not pass through it, replace it and wait an hour.
What is almost never the answer is the thermostat. Warm air at the vents sends homeowners straight there, and it is the cause maybe a few times a year. Replacing it costs money and leaves the real fault in place. I do thermostat installation when a thermostat is genuinely at fault, or when you want remote control of a seasonal home, but I will say plainly when that is not the problem.
What the visit costs and what happens on it
A residential diagnostic is $109. That is what the diagnosis costs, charged in the open rather than folded into a repair nobody has priced yet. It buys my time on site: static pressure and temperature split readings, electrical testing at the contactor and capacitor, refrigerant pressures read against ambient conditions, a look at the coil, drain and duct connections, then a flat repair price in writing before anything is taken apart, so you decide whether to go ahead with the real number already in front of you. I do not quote repair prices over the phone beyond that dispatch fee, because guessing at a repair I have not seen is how people end up surprised. Estimates for a full system replacement are free. If your system dies at nine on a Friday night in August, emergency AC repair in Bonita Springs is available.
When I will tell you to replace instead of repair
I make more on a replacement than a repair, so treat this as said against my own interest. If a system is under about ten years old and the failure is a capacitor, contactor, fan motor, board or a leak at an accessible joint, repair it. If it is an R-22 system with a leaking evaporator coil, the refrigerant cost alone usually makes repair uneconomical and you are buying a year, maybe two. If the compressor is dead on a unit past twelve years, particularly one that spent those years in beach air, replacement wins even though the repair is technically possible. I install American Standard equipment as an authorized dealer, 0% financing is available on new systems for qualified buyers, and I also handle heating and furnace repair for the few January mornings that need it.
