Indoor Air Quality & UV Purification in Cape Coral, FL
I am Derrik Speck, owner of True Care Air LLC, and I do the work myself. Cape Coral gets me more musty smell calls than anywhere else I run, and there is a reason for it. Water on three sides of most neighborhoods, salt in the air, and a lot of houses that sit closed up for months. If that is your situation, call me at (239) 810-2500 or book online and I will look at the actual cause.
What a UV lamp does in the air handler
A UV lamp is mounted inside the air handler where it can run on the evaporator coil and the drain pan. Those surfaces are wet every time the system cools, and a permanently wet surface is where biological growth establishes. The lamp keeps that film from getting a foothold on the coil and in the pan. A coil with growth on it moves less air, drains worse and smells, so the point of the lamp is keeping the equipment clean and moving air the way it was designed to. I do not make medical claims about it. No percentages, no allergy cures, and I would not trust a contractor who tells you otherwise.
What it will not do, said plainly
A UV lamp is not a substitute for cleaning a coil that is already dirty and it will not fix a clogged drain line. If the coil is already fouled or the drain is backing up on a canal-front house, I clean and repair that first. Installing a lamp over a filthy coil is selling somebody a light bulb. The lamps are consumable too, they lose output and need replacing on an interval, and I give you that interval up front. Keeping ahead of it is what Cape Coral maintenance is for, and anything already failing gets handled as a repair.
Air quality complaints here are often humidity in disguise
An oversized air conditioner cools the house fast, hits the thermostat setpoint and shuts off before it has pulled much moisture out. The result is a house sitting at 60 percent indoor humidity that feels clammy and smells stale while the air conditioner is working exactly as it was installed. That is a sizing and equipment problem, not a filter problem. A variable speed system that runs longer at lower capacity is the real fix, and if that is where you are, the replacement cost calculator will give you a number before anyone sits at your table.
What makes Cape Coral houses different
- Canal-front homes off Del Prado and Diplomat Parkway carry more ambient moisture, so pans and coils stay wet longer between cycles.
- Salt air is hard on outdoor coils and on the metal inside the air handler cabinet, which is a good reason to keep the whole system clean rather than mask a smell.
- Seasonal owners north for months leave the house closed with the thermostat set high, so the system barely runs, the coil stays damp and nothing gets flushed out.
- Newer construction along Burnt Store Road and north of Pine Island Road is tight, and tight houses recirculate the same air continuously.
- Leaky or undersized return duct pulling humid attic air makes every one of the above worse, which is a duct repair conversation.
Pricing and how to get me out there
UV Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 systems are $859 each installed. Dual UV systems are $1,200 and up. I also install REME HALO whole home air purification. Licensed CAC1824801, insured, owner operated, with 0% financing through Wells Fargo for qualified buyers on larger work. The Southwest Florida indoor air quality page explains my whole approach, and a standing tune up schedule is the cheapest way to keep a coil from ever getting bad enough to smell.
