Indoor Air Quality & UV Purification in Fort Myers, FL
I am Derrik Speck. I own True Care Air LLC and I am the man who shows up at your house, so you get the same answer on the phone that you get in the driveway. If the house smells musty when the air handler kicks on, or the return grille has a sour smell to it, I would rather find the cause first than sell you a box. Call me at (239) 810-2500 or book online.
What a UV lamp actually does
A UV lamp mounts inside the air handler and runs on the evaporator coil and the drain pan. Those two surfaces are wet every time the system cools, and in Fort Myers they are wet most of the year. Biological growth establishes on permanently wet surfaces, and a UV lamp aimed at that coil and pan keeps it from taking hold. That is the whole job, and it is worth doing, because a coil with growth on it moves less air, drains worse and smells. I am not going to tell you a lamp does anything for your health, your allergies, or a virus, and I would be careful with anyone who does.
What a UV lamp will not do
Plainly: a UV lamp is not a substitute for cleaning a coil that is already dirty, and it will not fix a clogged drain line. If your coil is loaded and the drain is backing up, that is a cleaning and a repair, and I do that first. Installing a lamp over a filthy coil is selling somebody a light bulb. Lamps are also a consumable. They lose output and need replacing on an interval, and I tell you that interval the day I install it so it is not a surprise two years later. Ongoing cleaning belongs with your regular Fort Myers maintenance visits, and if the coil is already fouled, that gets handled as a repair call before anything else.
A lot of Fort Myers air quality complaints are humidity complaints
This is the part most people never hear. An oversized air conditioner cools the house fast, satisfies the thermostat and shuts off before it has removed much moisture. You end up at 60 percent indoor humidity, clammy, with a musty smell and a perfectly functional air conditioner. That is a sizing and equipment problem, not a filter problem. The real fix is a variable speed system that runs longer at lower capacity and actually wrings water out of the air. If that is where you are headed, run the numbers on the replacement cost calculator before anybody quotes you.
Fort Myers is not one kind of house
The age range here is wide, and the problems split along it:
- McGregor Boulevard and the older interior streets: original or patched duct, leaky returns pulling humid attic and crawl air, and coils that have never been properly cleaned.
- Gateway and the Daniels Corridor: newer, tighter construction that recirculates the same air all day, which makes coil and pan hygiene matter more, not less.
- South Fort Myers and the Page Field area: a mix of both, often with an air handler in a hot garage or a tight closet where the drain pan stays wet.
- Any house where a previous owner added returns or flex without a plan, which is a ductwork conversation, not an air purifier conversation.
What I install and what it costs
UV Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 systems are $859 each installed. Dual UV systems are $1,200 and up. I also install REME HALO whole home air purification. I am licensed CAC1824801, insured and owner operated, and there is 0% financing through Wells Fargo for qualified buyers on larger work. If you want the background on how I approach all of this, read the Southwest Florida indoor air quality overview, and keep the system on a tune up schedule so the coil stays clean in the first place.
